Generation NYX is a crisis communication technology company building DEFENDER, a real-time collaboration platform for emergency response. DEFENDER provides a shared operational picture that helps organizations coordinate during critical events through live mapping, reporting, and secure communication.
Designed for real-world conditions, DEFENDER is web-based, easy to deploy, and interoperable with existing GIS systems. The platform supports coordination across agencies, roles, and jurisdictions scaling from small local incidents to complex, multi-agency operations.
Our story
Generation NYX was formed out of more than a decade of experience developing and deploying incident command systems in real-world emergency operations. This work, carried out at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and in collaboration with emergency response organizations, demonstrated the value of shared situational awareness and real-time collaboration in complex, high-pressure environments.
Building on that foundation, Generation NYX was created to evolve these proven concepts into a flexible, web-based platform that could support response teams of all sizes. By reducing technical and deployment barriers, the company focuses on making reliable, real-time coordination accessible to municipalities and organizations operating with varying resources.
Today, Generation NYX continues to develop DEFENDER in close collaboration with emergency managers and responders, ensuring the platform evolves alongside real operational needs while maintaining the rigor and reliability of its origins.
